- Germany totals 536k IPTV subs at end-2008, according to the German Association for IT, Telecommunications and New Media (BITKOM). Deutsche Telekom accounts for the majority of German IPTV subscribers, reporting over 500,000 subscribers for its ‘T-Home Entertain’ service at the end of 2008.
- Brits watch more TV than ever, announces Thinbox. British viewers reportedly watch on average 26 hours of TV per week last year. This can be attributed to recession forcing people to stay at home, cold winter weather, and chart topping shows such as the X Factor. Thinkbox said the growth of viewing had also fuelled record numbers of TV ads being watched last year. The study also found that 78% of online TV viewing is focused on catching up with shows missed on traditional television. Thinkbox confirms a signifcant increase in online VoD viewing, thanks to services such as Virgin Media, the BBC iPlayer and Channel 4VoD. Download the study here
